The Pros and cons of the bernadoodle

Bernadoodles have a myriad of exceptional qualities that make them the perfect companion for individuals and families alike. However, there are a few cons that are easily manageable with the correct training.

The Bernadoodle is a delightful crossbreed between Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodles. Originating from the Swiss Mountains, Bernese dogs were initially bred as farm companions, while Poodles, believed to originate from Germany, are intelligent hunting dogs known for their non-shedding coat. The Bernadoodle comes in three sizes—Standard, Mini, and Toy—depending on the Poodle heritage mixed with the Bernese Mountain Dog, reflecting a spectrum between the stout Bernese and the lithe Poodle.

Swiss farmers relied on these dogs for various tasks, from assisting on the farm to carrying supplies and children in specially designed carts. They are large, strong, and particularly fond of children. Whether snuggling on the couch after a long day or actively engaging in work, Bernadoodles exhibit a unique blend of intelligence, playfulness, and loyalty.

The Pros:

Bernadoodles are characterized by their calm and affectionate nature. All my puppies have displayed a remarkable calm disposition, making them ideal family dogs. They love the company of children, cats, and other dogs, making them excellent companions. Their intelligence, inherited from both the Bernese and the Poodle, makes them easy to train. Athletic and protective, they respond well to positive and loving training. These dogs are also adaptable to various living situations, whether in spacious homes or apartments, as long as they receive proper exercise and mental stimulation.

The Cons:

While there are a few considerations, they are manageable with proper care. First, Bernadoodles may exhibit caution around strangers, but socialization at an early age minimizes this trait. Due to their sensitive nature, positive reinforcement is essential in training. Long hours of separation might lead to separation anxiety, easily alleviated by a loving and firm owner. Third, boredom can lead to destructive behavior, but this can be mitigated through kennel training and stimulating activities. Lastly, a stubborn streak during teenage years is rare and can be addressed with consistent training.

I am here to ensure both owners and dogs are happy. The Bernadoodle offers a significant reduction in shedding and allergy issues associated with Bernese Mountain Dogs, while embodying loyal, loving, and calm personalities. Their coloring and athleticism make them delightful companions for outdoor activities. If this sounds like the right fit for you, consider making one of the best decisions of your life and welcoming a wonderful Bernadoodle into your home.
